While reading online I often stumble with words that I don’t know or I don’t have a clear understanding of their meaning. That’s why I always have a dictionary with me. reading without understanding some words is really hard to grasp concepts or ideas.
I have been using ifinger for a long time, and I only stopped using it in the short period of time I had windows vista installed on this laptop, during that time I was using a nice Windows Vista widget I wrote about on this post. productive Windows Vista Sidebar Widgets
What is ifinger?
iFinger is a software program that incorporates structured information databases. The program then provides the user with instant access to that information.
iFinger works on any word you can highlight contained within any Windows based program – including word-processors, spreadsheets, and graphics software.
ifinger docks itself on any active window so you always have the ability to check the meaning of a word quick and easy.
This is ifinger currently docked on my Windows Live writer app
ifinger also grab article links from wikipedia related to the word you are searching for:
I honestly never knew the true meaning of geek, until now!
Of course if you don’t want Wikipedia you can get rid of it by going to the configuration option and remove it from the product lists:
There you have it, a nice free dictionary to make your reading experience more meaningful.
Download ifinger from here

I have kind of an old version of I finger that SOMETIMES, when I install it on a new computer, or a reformatted hard disk, will NOT translate words by double-clicking, but instead shows me PART of one of those “Cannot find server” internet pages. “The page cannot be displayed”
On Internet pages, just pointing the cursor at a word translates it.
This drives me crazy! Just the other day I had it working fine. I’d double-click a word and the translation list would come up just as it should.
Then I reformatted and re-installed, and I’ve got this problem again.
I don’t know what the key step is that I should or should not take to make Ifinger work in Word.
Can you help me?
Thanks,
Bob Haskell
