Ever have to kill a program that always freezes up or crashes? Normally to terminate the process, you have to go to the Task Manager, click on the Processes tab and kill the process manually.
If you do this once a month, it’s no big deal, but if you have to do this quite often, then it would be nice if you could just use a keyboard shortcut to kill a process instantly without any notifications or popup windows.
SuperF4 is a free utility for Windows that sits in memory and allows you to instantly terminate a program or process using a hotkey.
Once installed, you’ll see a small icon in your taskbar that kind of looks like Bowser from Super Mario Bros! Anyway, to kill the current foreground program, just press Ctrl + Alt + F4.
So you might be asking yourself why not just use the normal Alt + F4 to close the program. Well the difference is that Alt + F4 only asks a program to close itself down, whereas Ctrl + Alt + F4 using SuperF4 will kill the process even if the program is frozen.
Note that the program does not prompt you, it just kills the application, so you will lose any unsaved data.
You can also press the Windows key + F4 and then click on any window to instantly terminate it. This might be good if you want to close down a program showing sensitive information with one click .
Note that the cursor will turn into a skull and crossbones icon when you have pressed Win + F4 to indicate that any window that is clicked will be killed. You can press ESC or right-click if you change your mind.
Overall, it’s a nice app for IT Administrators who may have to deal with lots of nasty programs that don’t shutdown properly! Enjoy! [via Freeware Genius]
