As a blogger I need to constantly make sure that my posts are properly tagged – the more keywords the search engines will have to index, the better the possible rankings. But as a blogger I know that content should come first instead of SEO tricks (don’t keyword stuff).
At the end of the day, content is king and no amount of tags will skyrocket a blog with poor content. Having said that, there are times that I use tags on posts for specific purposes.
With Live Writer as my primary means to write my posts, I looked for a plugin solution that will automatically generate tags for my blogs. I found Tag Generator from the windows Live Gallery. It will generate tags for Technorati, Windows Live, WordPress and Blogger.
To use the tool, select all the content of your post using Control A or if you prefer click Edit > Select All. Then click Generate Tags under the Insert panel:
A tabbed window will appear containing the selected text of your blog.
Check which type of tags you want to generate (check one if you are not sure). Click the generate button to generate the tags. The Create tab will display the generated tags:
You may modify the generated tags as you prefer. Once you are done reviewing and editing the tags click the Insert button to insert the tags to your blog. The tags are generated at the bottom part of your blog.
Since this tool is generating tags based on your content, it is best to finish the post first before running this tool. I would need to warn you that this tool is not perfect – for my taste I think it generates too many tag words – I would prefer if it outputs less, but more precise keywords based on my content.
In the end, a blogger is still the one responsible for his/her blog. Although it is not perfect – it still automates the mechanical task of adding tags to your content.
