Setting up video or audio streaming on Windows Server 2003 using Windows Media Services is very easy. with windows media services you can cache and record streams, enforce authentication, impose various connection limits, restrict access, use multiple protocols, generate usage statistics, and apply forward error correction. It can also handle a high number of concurrent connections making it ideal for content providers.
Windows Media Services only supports the following file formats:
To install windows media services go to your Windows Server 2003 and click on Start and click on All Programs click on Administrative Tools and choose Manage Your Server:
Click on Add or remove a role. click on Next on the preliminary steps window that comes up. after windows check that everything is fine on your server, the following window should come up:
Select Streaming Media Server on the list and click Next. Click Next on the Summary of Selections window that comes up. after clicking next, windows should start the installation:
Somewhere along the line, Windows will ask you to insert the Windows Server 2003 Installation CD:
Insert the CD , and click OK. the installation should continue. The installation should finish right after.
This server is now a streaming media server. we will do some configurations shortly.
