I verified the registry key suggested by matt wilson 157, I ran LU SETUP.exe first, rebooted then ran Setup.exe as an Administrator and it continues to roll back. I have become so frustrated with Symantec and Windows 7!!! This AV is the best around, but with the new OS it plain sucks!!!! Works fine on my XP and Vista Systems, but won't even install on Windows 7.

None of these methods work for me. I had the same issue on my wife notebook and I was up all night trying different, way more complicated solutions to no avail. I finally installed it but I had no idea what step was the final fix. With your post it worked without issue. Thanks you so very much1

Abhijeet Ramchandran you saved me considerable time installing x64 SEP on my latest desktop. I tried to the methods you mentioned above:
1) remove "PendingFileRenameOperations" in:
HKLM>Sytem>CurrentControlSet>Control>session manager
HKLM>Sytem>ControlSet01>Control>session manager
HKLM>Sytem>ControlSet02>Control>session manager
2) make sure HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent VersionExplorerUser Shell FoldersAppData
value=%USERPROFILE%AppDataRoaming
as it's my original value
3) reboot the machine
4) install the LUsetup.exe first and then install the setup.exe for SEP. (with Admin permission)
However, it still doesn't work in my machine. Any suggestion, I'm appreciated.

Hi Abhijeet,

I tried to the methods you mentioned above:

1) remove "PendingFileRenameOperations" in:

HKLM>Sytem>CurrentControlSet>Control>session manager

HKLM>Sytem>ControlSet01>Control>session manager

HKLM>Sytem>ControlSet02>Control>session manager

2) make sure HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent VersionExplorerUser Shell FoldersAppData

value=%USERPROFILE%AppDataRoaming

as it's my original value

3) reboot the machine

4) install the LUsetup.exe first and then install the setup.exe for SEP. I remembered installing LiveUpdate first because I installed SEP11.0.5 on Win7 months ago. But then I just installed it with every option available, including Proactive Threat Protection and Network Threat Protection, and it worked fine. This didn't happen last time, when I had to install only Antivirus and Antispyware Protection. Same install package and Win7.
Why is SEP so confusing... o.o,

Something very peculiar. I remembered installing LiveUpdate first because I installed SEP11.0.5 on Win7 months ago.
