There are two simple, but very useful, tips that will save you time in Google Chrome.

We have previously written about an extension available for Chrome and Firefox, called HyperWords, that allows you to quickly research phrases or words (see Research an Unknown Phrase or Word in Firefox and Chrome). However, the extension has limited functionality in Chrome.

The first time-saving tip is about an easy method for searching for a word or phrase from a webpage in Chrome without installing an extension. If you find a word or phrase on a webpage (or elsewhere) on which you want to search, select the text and copy it.

Copying a word on a webpage

Then, right-click on the address bar in Chrome and select Paste and search from the pop-up menu.

Paste and search option

A search on the word or phrase is done in Google, and the results are displayed in the current tab.

The second time-saving tips involves quickly going to a URL that you copy from a webpage or other location. For example, if there is a link in an email that didn’t come through as an active link, or you would just rather copy a link from an email to the browser, highlight and copy the text of the link.

Copying a URL in an email

Go to the Chrome browser, right-click on the address bar, and select Paste and go from the pop-up menu.

Paste and go option

The URL is pasted into the address bar and you are taken to the site, all in one go.

If you copy and paste a lot of text for searching and URLs to go to, these two tips will be handy.
