Why People Hate Computers?
We as techies everyday have to listen patiently to the user who complains and pours all the hatred he has about computers, and sometimes I wonder, why people hate computers? It would be really stupid if you came to me complaining about your arm or leg, but is almost the same when someone complains about his computer and telling me computers suck when he is so dependant on them.
I know computers don’t work as we expect them to work sometimes, but how you expect the computer to work efficiently when you never think about your computer needs, the computer needs maintenance, cleaning the drive, remove Spyware etc. computers are just like any other mechanical machine. The better you take care of it, the better it is.
Also they claim computers are hard to understand and operate, oh yeah computers are really hard to understand but if you see them from a perspective of a computer scientist, indeed computer are complex in nature, that’s why they are prompt to errors really easy, the million parts that makes a computer need to work perfectly in order for me to write this document, but a user complains about his spreadsheets not opening as fast a he wants, all the annoying pop-pops he gets when he opens up the browser, not finding things where he should, all these things contribute to the user frustration and then he starts whining about how a pain in the ass computers are.
I don’t know what contribute to the phenomenon of people hating their computers, I think is a inherited computer-phobia that people don’t take the time to study computers and automatically give up to the thought that computers are for the geeks and super smarty people, but if they set an hour a day to figure out how their computer work, in no time they would become super computer users probably better than some self proclaimed techies. Don’t justify it by saying that you are always swamped, but as I notice and national statistics show that most employees spend more than an hour doing things not related to their duties at work, like watching youtube videos, reading perez Hilton, and playing online games etc. becoming efficient on computer things means becoming more efficient doing your work, you might know everything on your field, but you spend most of your time trying to understand that program that promise to do your work easier.
I know many people don’t agreed with me about how simple computers can become when you set a time to understand them, in the long run you will be the winner, computers are interesting and easy to understand, if you don’t agreed with this, like professor Richard Dawkins said “you can fuck off”
