Ubuntu is one of the most popular Linux distributions today. It is free and easy to use and could easily be picked up by most beginning computer users. With a Live CD you can test the operating system before you install it but once you decide to go ahead and make it permanent on your computer a handy installation engine is included on it too.
To install click the Install icon on the desktop.
The installer is wizard driven so it is very easy to follow. The first step is the Language selection.
The next step is the the time zone selection. Jsut chose your timezone then click Forward.
The most important portion is the step where you will select the partition where you want the OS to be installed. You can also specify the portion (or partition) but if you don’t plan to install more than one OS, just select the default to use the entire disk.
The next step is where you will put the main user name account. You can also set the computer name to your preference.
The last step is the installation to the drive you selected. The whole process is quick and took only a few minutes on my Acer Aspire desktop with 2Ghz AMD x64 and 2GB RAM.
After that you will be prompted to restart but before restarting make sure to remove the bootable Live CD so that when you boot up you will use the installed Ubuntu OS and not the Live CD. If you do this correctly you should see the distinctive Ubuntu login screen.
Ubuntu is one of the most recommendable Linux. As you can see it is very easy to install and whole process is done on just a few clicks.
Ben Carigtan shows you how it’s done.
