By default, Ubuntu installs with Firefox as the default web browser. However, you can easily install Google Chrome and make it the default web browser, if you prefer.
Download Google Chrome from
http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html.
On the download page, select one of the .deb packages, depending on whether you have a 32 bit or a 64 bit computer.
Read through the license agreement and click Accept and Install.
On the Opening dialog box, select the Open with radio button and make sure the GDebi Package Installer (default) is selected from the drop-down list. Click OK.
The Package Installer dialog box displays. Click Install Package.
The progress of the installation displays in a dialog box.
When the installation is finished, click Close.
NOTE: If you have selected the Automatically close after the changes have been successfully applied check box when installing a different .deb package or while the current installation was happening, this dialog box will close automatically.
To close the Package Installer, select Quit from the File menu.
To make Google Chrome the preferred application for surfing the web, select Preferences | Preferred Applications from the System menu.
The Preferred Applications dialog box displays. Make sure the Internet tab is active. In the Web Browser section, select Google Chrome from the drop-down list.
Click Close.
To open Google Chrome, select Internet | Google Chrome from the Applications menu.
The Welcome to Google Chrome dialog box displays. Select the Make Google Chrome the default browser check box and click Start Google Chrome.
Now, when a browser is automatically opened, for example, by opening an HTML file, or a link in another program, Google Chrome will open instead of Firefox.
