We have shown you how to install Ubuntu from a single Live CD, so now we will show you how to update Ububtu using Update Manager. The Update Manager will show you all software updates available from the Ubuntu host.
The requirement is to get your Ubuntu connected to the Internet. In my case, it automatically detected my LAN so updating was a breeze. To open the Update Manager click the System menu then choose Administration > Update Manager:
It will open the Update Manager window and it will show you all critical updates like security related software updates. If you scroll down the list you will see also the recommended updates. It works like the regular Windows update interface so most Windows users will be familiarized with it in no time.
At the bottom part you will see the total download size, the check button and the install updates button. The check button will recheck for all available software updates while the install updates button will download and install all of the updates. You can also check only which updates you want before clicking install updates.
Once you decide to install the updates, it will ask for the password you used during the OS user setup. Enter this password to start downloading the updates.
After installing all of the package files you can resume enjoying your updated Ubuntu system. I love how Ubuntu made the updating of OS very easily with a dedicated update Manager interface. I still remember the old Unix days when I needed to search for the release notes of every patch release from Unix vendors just to figure out which patch to install or not.
Ben Carigtan shows you how it’s done!

I like Ubuntu because it’s not Windows!
