If you are a new system administrator you should get into the habit of using Microsoft Management Console (MMC) to manage your servers and computers, and, or if you are a veteran system admin, but never have used MMC before, today is a good day to start(:>
In order to use MMC you need to download the System Server 2003 Administration tools pack, that is if you are using Windows Server 2003 infrastructure on your organization. Download the pack from here and install it.
After Admin Pack has been installed go to the RUN and type MMC and click OK. the MMC console should come up:
Now to add snap-ins to your console go to File and then click on Add\Remove Snap-ins”¦then click on add on the following window:
From there you can add any snap-in you think is necessary to manage your servers, the viral snap-ins you should add are:
- Active Directory Users and Computers
- DNS
- DHCP
And if you use exchange, add Exchange System. Click on close whenever you finish adding snap-ins. now, every time you you exit the program, it asks you if you want to save the settings.
