Alternatively to forwarding your gmail account to your work email account you can setup Outlook with gmail as POP3 individually. in this case, your work and gmail messages which most likely are personal don’t mix.
First of all, make sure gmail is enable for POP3 connection, to do that login to your gmail account and click on Settings, then click on Forwarding and POP /IMAP:
Then on the POP options choose “Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on”
As always, you can choose whatever settings fit your needs. if you want to have all your gmail messages history on Outlook then choose the first option: Enable POP for all mail (even mail that’s already been downloaded)
Save the settings and then on Windows XP go to Start click on Control Panel and then click on the Mail applet in control panel:
The mail setup wizard will come up:
Cick on Show Profiles and then click on Add and name a new profile, and Make sure Prompt for a new profile to be used is checked:
Once you add the name for your profile, the auto account setup wizard should come up. Type your name, e-mail address, password, and password verification:
Click next, and let Outlook discover the settings for you. isn’t this cool? on previous Outlook versions, you need to specify the POP3 settings for the account setup, Outlook 2007 do this automatically for you. this is like a blackberry Internet mail setup where you only enter the e-mail address and password and the device discover the settings for you”¦ very cool.
After a few seconds you should receive a test e-mail to your gmail account and the settings should be completed.
Click on Finish. Now Gmail should be setup as POP3 on your computer. Now when you open Outlook you should get prompted for a profile to use.
Choose your profile accordingly, and happy mailing.
