If for some strange reason people are receiving duplicate e-mails from you every time you e-mail them, don’t panic, it seems to be a common problem. If you are running Norton anti-virus make sure to disable scanning outgoing e-mails. This is a known issue that causes e-mails being sent twice.
To disable Norton from scanning outgoing e-mails do this,
- Exit any email programs that are running, such as Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.
- Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program. - Click Options.
If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus. - In the left pane, click Email.
- In the right pane, uncheck Scan incoming Email and Scan outgoing Email.
- Click OK.
- If you use Norton AntiVirus 2006/2005, then in the Protection Alert dialog box, on the drop-down menu, click Permanently, and then click OK.
- Exit Norton AntiVirus.
Another thing that seems to cause the problem of sending duplicate e-mails from outlook is if two outlook.exe processes instances are running.
Sometimes when you right-click on the TaskBar and go to Task Manager and check the Processes tab, you will see two Outlook.exe processes running. this I believe causes the issue of sending duplicate e-mails.
The best way to fix this issue is to make sure that Office is up to date. Check for Office updates and Windows updates as that will most likely fix the problem.
