It was recently announced that comcast is limiting bandwidth usage to 250 GB a month per customer because they are crying out loud that their pipes can’t handle the load some Internet abusers produce. They claim the normal Internet user only use 3 GB of bandwidth a month? Who are those users? My grandma?
A normal user in today’s world probably use 3 GB of bandwidth a day watching videos on youtube alone, then another 1 GB downloading songs or videos from Limewire, and probably a few MBs checking e-mails or browsing through facebook or myspace. how comcast can assume normal users only use 3 GB of bandwidth a month? Are they checking statistics from this generation?
I regularly watch TV episodes and movies on the Internet on my home computer, so probably Comcast will suspend my service or call me to warn me of my heavy Internet usage, that’s fine, is been awhile I’ve been pissed at their service, so now is a good time to get RCN as my Internet provider.
It is fine grandma you can keep Comcast, just remember to limit checking your Juno e-mail account, otherwise Comcast will suspend your account as well.

You think that sucks, Comcast in Fort Wayne is limiting people to a DAILY bandwidth which is under 5gb…which is WAY below 250gb a month.
They are also giving information to the government…from a techs mouth no less. He wouldn't go further into it since there was an email posted some time back stating ANY Comcast employee talking about ANYTHING like that would be fired.
If you are burning through more than 250 GB a month it may be time to develop an interest away from the computer.
It may come as a shock to you but not everyone who uses a computer spends hours on Youtube.
Hope that my parents get someone a bit more empathetic than you if ever they need the services of a helpdesk.
I agree with you on one point, Comcast do suck but for 101 reasons other than the one you complain about.
Steve, burning through a 250 gbs limit is actually very easy , BT a few files which is 10-15 gbs (which upload can be something like 20-30 gbs ….(games from Asia , Online games Clients , Online games AFK and game play) , and there go the 250 gbs limits. Isn't that easy? yes, it does.
Btw , I don't watch youtube at all.
And 1 very important point, What it advertise was "Unlimited" high speed internet. If it set a cap , we should be able to sue that company for dishonest advertising.
Okay so my brother and I just signed a lease for an apartment in Watertown, MA. and I have a question. Comcast is likely available in the area, though I'd rather not get it. I checked with RCN's website for service, and they do indeed service Watertown, MA. My question is: unlike Comcast, does RCN have a bandwidth limit? I do indeed do alot of [legal] downloading using Bit Torrent and otherwise, and I'd hate to be limited to anything per month, i.e. 250 GB ala Comcast.
Thanks,
