Installed the Fix from Microsoft and got new video drivers, left the upgrade overnight and it was successful. I hope this works on the other notebooks that are coming in for upgrades ;)

We have about 40 notebooks at my work and we are phasing out Windows Vista but seeing as the users are teachers they have many important documents and teaching applications that I don't want to risk losing. I have successfully upgraded about 10 of these notebooks running Vista Business but about 5 so far have frozen at the last stage of the installation where it transfers files, settings etc. I have even left the notebook over the weekend. I also tried an upgrade on a new notebook that nobody has used yet and yet it failed the upgrade.

I have also made sure that I have uninstalled all useless and not used applications and made sure drivers are up to date, including using the get latest updates install option. A clean boot also failed. I am also trying installing from the files that I placed on the hard drive to rule out the DVD rom.

I have tried possibly all the methods around this problem and so far none have worked. I have tried the manual method listed above and that also didn't work. I am now trying after installing the MS fix. Hopefully this attempt works.

Seems to be a wide spread problem. Hope I can post a solution.
