If you are not a big fan of Windows Vista Aero and don’t like the translucent glass effect by default on Vista; but still want to take advantage of some of the goodies windows vista user experience provides, well, you could just disable or tweak the look of windows vista to your liking; Microsoft has provided a nice option to tune vista on how it looks.
The quickest ways to get to this option is by right-clicking on an empty area on your desktop and go to properties, and then select Windows Color and appearance from the personalize appearance and sound effects control penal.

First, you can pick up between preset color choices by selecting one of the color scheme swatches show at the top of the window. You can also disable transparent glass, or vary the intensity of the translucency to meet your liking. Finally you can expand the show color mixer option and apply varying levels of color, saturated, and brightness to achieve just the look and feel you want.
