It’s the Easter holiday season so I will show you how to uncover a really cool Vista boot-up screen. There is the default and boring black boot screen of Windows Vista (shown below), however, there is also a “hidden” boot screen created by Microsoft. The alternate boot screen is inspired by the starry display seen on the polar regions.
To enable the alternate boot screen in Vista follow the steps below.
· Click on Start and type MSCONFIG in the search box and hit enter to open the System Configuration window.
· In the System Configuration window click on the Boot Tab.
· In the Boot Tab window check the No GUI boot check box and click OK.
· The system will ask you to restart click on restart and the alternate screen will now be enabled. The boot screen will look like the figure below.
The effect is inspired by the natural light displays in the sky called the aurora borealis. They can be seen from the polar regions.

This boot screen is similar to what you will see if you resume windows after hibernating. In the next posts I will show you how to change this screen so you can use your own image for boot up.
