my preferred method is to do a clean install of Windows Vista, if you upgrade from Windows 2000 or Windows XP new applications could not run as smooth as they do on the old OS, so to avoid any problem that might arise by doing an upgrade, just install windows vista as a clean install. make sure to backup all the data on your hard drive in order to do a clean install though, so all your documents,Internet favorites, e-mails and application can be migrated successfully to the new OS.
