Visually, Windows vista is a beautiful operating system but when it comes to performance and productivity it really sucks. I first used Windows vista when it was in beta 2, and it completely screwed up my laptop when I tried to install the drivers. I was really disappointed with that result, but in my brain there was spark of hope that the ultimate release of Vista would be much better.
I was wrong; when vista came out in January, I jumped to grab a copy at CompUSA to install it on one of my best laptops. I was delighted with the beautiful graphics and the sidebar with the nice clock. The first thing I noticed that I didn’t like was the huge disk space amount it took on my hard-drive, it was more than double of what windows XP takes. What really pissed me off was the processor always at 100 % usage, and taking a lot of memory. Every time I rebooted it took a long time for windows to be ready for input, and in this world of fast pace, I would end up bald with an OS like that from pulling my hair off my head.
I like Windows Vista for it has a lot of great features like, a deeper layer security, even though is annoying to get a security window every time you want to perform anything, even typing on the run command. Networking with Vista is easier than XP, everything is centralized and TCP/IP 6 is installed by default.
These are the features I like in vista;
The new windows Shell
Windows Mail
Windows Update-Now is not through the Web but it’s integrated in control penal
User account control-Even though is annoying to be asked for permission every time you want to perform anything even to IPCONFIG in the run command.
Windows meeting space and a few more”¦
As you can see nothing interesting to upgrade from my windows XP
Windows Vista is available in 6 flavors. Home basic, Home Premium, Ultimate, Business, Enterprise and windows Vista starter, not bad when it comes to choices ah, but I’m sure all of them suck, why doesn’t Microsoft stick with one and make it better?
I won’t get Vista until it gets better or until Windows Vienna comes out; if Vienna sucks then I will go with a Linux distro, hopefully by that time I will be retired and I won’t have to deal with Windows users anymore.
