Microsoft realized how out of control spyware has become these days, and has shipped an integrated spyware removal with windows vista, the name is Windows Defender. Windows defender has been designed to work in the background on your system, so unless something goes wrong with it, you probably never will see or interact with windows defender on your computer.
If you are using windows vista, and want to run a manual scan, or just to check the features windows defender offer, click on the “start button” then click on “all programs” and look for windows defender on the menu,

Once you click on windows defender on the menu, an interface like the picture above will come up, as you can see, the windows defender interface is really simple, not too much things to tweak around. One feature I like in windows defender in particular, and that is to be able to see the processes running on your computer, when you click on “Tools” and then on “Software Explorer”

This feature is like msconfig.exe in windows XP, but windows defender definitely let you see more information about the processes, and it gives you the option to disable the startup process if you don’t want the process to run at startup. There are some other things you might find useful on windows defender. I find windows defender really efficient on windows vista; I wish I could say the samething for windows XP but is horrible. If you are running windows XP and want to try it, download it from www.microsoft.com . But remember I told you, it does not work that good on windows XP. You’ve been warned.
