Backup, backup, backup… that’s the tip you always hear from wiser computer users. Somehow we tend to be lazy and don’t really realize the importance of having a backup until a disaster occurs.
In this tutorial, we will show you how to properly backup your hard disks to DVDs so that you can restore from a bare setup. The tip applies to Windows Vista and Windows 7 computers.
Click on Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance
In the system maintenance window click Back up your computer this will open Backup and Restore Center dialogue box.
In the Backup and Restore Window click Back up computer.
It is recommended to save your complete backup on a DVD. So you can keep it physically away from your system. Unlike a hard disk, they won’t be corrupted or overridden unless scratched or damaged due to mishandling.
After selecting where you want to save your backup the system will ask you what disk will be included in your backup. You can select all the available drives on you disk or you can only select the drive where your System (OS) is installed then click next.
After making your selection click Start backup and wait for the backup process to finish. Several DVD’s may be required depending on the size of the disk you selected.
This will ask you to pop in blank DVDs and the number of DVDs will depend on the size of your chosen disk to backup. A DVD has about 4.5GB so a 50GB disk might require about 11 or 12 discs.
Ben shows you how it’s done.

This option is not available in Vista Home Premium. Only the option to backup files.
