If you have been wanting the AeroSnap and AeroShake features available in Windows 7, such as snapping application windows to the edges of your monitor, but you are still using Windows XP, AquaSnap is a free software program brings Aero-style effects to Windows XP and even enhances Aero in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Download AquaSnap from
http://www.nurgo-software.com/products/aquasnap.
To begin the installation, double-click on the .msi file you downloaded. The Welcome screen displays. Click Next.
On the End-User License Agreement screen read through the agreement and select the I accept the terms in the License Agreement check box. Click Next.
Accept the default path for the Destination Folder and click Next.
Click Install on the Ready to install AquaSnap screen to start the installation process.
The progress of the installation displays on the Installing AquaSnap screen.
When the installation is finished, click Finish.
To access the settings for AquaSnap, right-click on the AquaSnap icon in the system tray and select Settings from the pop-up menu.
You can also access the settings from the AquaSnap program group on the Start menu. Select the Configuration option from the AquaSnap program group.
The AquaSnap dialog box displays with the General tab active. You can choose to have AquaSnap Start with Windows and to Show an icon in the system tray. Both of these options are on by default.
Use the AquaSnap tab to specify settings for the AeroSnap/AquaSnap feature or to disable the feature. The different options specify where to snap the window as you move it.
Click the AquaShake tab. The AquaShake feature allows you to “shake” the title bar of a window to have that window remain on top of all other windows. If you choose the AeroShake option, all other windows will be minimized except for the window you are shaking.
Click the AquaGlass tab. If you want the windows to be transparent as you move them, select the Activate AquaGlass check box and select a level of transparency using the slider bar.
Click the Appearance tab to specify settings for the appearance and behavior of AquaSnap. You can choose to Display a preview rectangle as you move a window. You can also Display a snap indicator which shows you to where the window will snap as you move it. There are three skins available to make the snap indicator look different.
Click OK to accept any changes you made on the tabs on the AquaSnap dialog box.
Here is an example of two windows neatly tiled just by moving them to the edges of the screen.
If you have a lot of windows open at one time, AquaSnap is a very useful tool. It can be useful even in Windows 7 because it enhances the Aero features already available.
