Another way to do it is going through “My Network Places” if you have a network places icon on your desktop click on it to open it, (if you are using the category view on windows XP, click on START and it should be on the right side of the start menu) click on Entire Network>Microsoft Windows Network the workgroup or network where your computer is part of should come up, click on the domain or workgroup, and all the computer joined to that group should come up, look for the file server and follow the procedure above to map the drive to your computer.
Please note that you need to be part of the domain or workgroup on where the shared files reside to do this
