This is part 3 of our series on Increasing Computer Performance; if you landed to this page from a Search Engine I recommend reading the series from part 1 to understand what we been up to. Thanks for reading.
Today we are going to talk about Spyware and how to avoid it; so what’s Spyware? Spyware is a piece of software installed on a personal computer by someone trying to track your doings on the Internet without your consent, it constantly send information about what you are doing on the computer to the Spyware person and this person is able to target you with ads related of what you searching for on the browser.
On this regard Spyware and Adware terms are used interchangeably. But there are more malicious Spyware software, and those really look for serious information on your computer like passwords, credit card and bank accounts that might be in cache on your computer.
How Spyware get installed on your computer? The most software I’ve seen that install Spyware are toolbars, free programs downloadable from the Internet, downloading free videos like Porno and popular stuff, and there hundreds of possibilities of your computer getting Spyware on the Internet, even visiting the most trusted sites like amazon.com will get you Spyware on your system, these sites make their millions doing business like this.
So how to avoid the Spyware? By not downloading stuff you don’t actually need, like toolbars, free programs and avoiding websites you know contain Spyware like Bittorent sites, but also by simple browsing the Internet you get tracking Cookies and Spyware and you need to clean your PC constantly to have you machine running smoothly.
What Tools to use to remove Spyware? I personally use Ad-Aware to clean my computer at least once a week, run a smart-scan and a full system scan to make sure all the crap is removed, Spyware and tracking cookies are what slow most computers down these days, I make most of the money on offside jobs removing Spyware from frustrated people’s computers, as you can see is pretty easy to avoid the techie coming to fix your computer by following these simple tips. These very simple tips are what we do as computer techies, there is no magic.
Another thing that really kill computer performance is the weather bug widget, and people seem to love it, avoid that weather bug at all cost is not good for your PC.
Here is a video about Spyware and a little Firefox promotion, I have actually fixed computers with Spyware this bad. Running Ad-Aware on these machines is fun. Tomorrow we will continue with our series on how to increase computer performance. Till then.
