By default, when Windows XP first starts, it loads Windows Messenger, which takes up system resources even if you are not using it. To stop Windows Messenger from loading at startup on the windows messenger menu,
Click Tools and go to options, on the option windows click on the “Preference” tab and uncheck the “Runs Windows Messenger When Windows Starts“ and the “Allow Windows Messenger to run in the background“ boxes. I guess is safe to check them all if you want.
Please also notice that this messenger is different from “MSN Messenger” this windows comes with all Windows Machines and the MSN one you need to download and install it.
