Follow these steps to install Windows Vista as a clean Install;
1. Insert the Windows Vista DVD on your DVD drive on your computer and reboot, after the BIOS screen flashes by, you may see a message alerting you to press any key to boot from CD or DVD. If so, press a key. Some systems might boot up from the DVD by default. A black screen with a progress bar and the text “windows is loading files” will appears,

2. Eventually, the screen will display a multicolored drape effect and the initial setup window appears, here you can pre-configure the language, time and currency formats and keyboard or input method you will use during the setup.

3. Click next, the install now windows appears, to continue the setup, click “Install Now”

4. In the next windows Enter your windows product key, this should be a 25 digit alphanumeric string, in blocks of 5 separated by dashes. You also have the option to activate windows when you are online.

5. In the next windows, you must agree to the end user license agreement, (EULA) take the time to go over the agreement, Microsoft explain your rights regarding the usage of windows vista, otherwise scroll down and check “I accept the license terms”

6. In the next window, select the partition, or disk, to which install windows vista, on a fresh install basically you will be installing vista on the only disk available.

7. Typically you will see a link called more options on this window. Clicking this link brings you to a screen where you can delete, format, or extend the current disk, or create a new partition if the hard drive is brand new and unformatted.

8. After you have selected the disk and formatted if necessary, windows will take roughly from 20 to 40 minutes depending on the hardware you have. During this time the setup will copy the files it needs for the installation to the hard drive.

9. After a couple of reboots, your PC will launch into the second and final interactive phase of setup. In the first screen you are prompted for a username and password and a display picture, (if you don’t choose a picture you get the flower by default. remember I told you)

10. Type a name for your PC and choose a desktop background, Windows by default picks a PC name that is based on your username.

11. Choose to whether enable Automatic Updates, you can choose the recommended settings, in which windows automatically downloads and install updates, can install only important updates, or can choose to be prompted later.

12. Configure the time zone, and time

Windows Installation up to this step is completed (you are ready to start)

That is basically the entire installation of window Vista, if you have a new computer the whole process should not take more than 40 to 60 minutes. There are some post-setup tasks you still will need to do on Vista but that will be the subject of another post.
