The folder was created by Visual Studio 10 (which I run as administrator -- I think this is why I have the problem).  I have not tried the permanent solution (net user administrator) yet because that requires a reboot and I am too impatient for that.
What I did do was run command prompt as administrator and execute the old dos command:  rename oldname newname.
